Augustana University Volleyball Camps
Augustana Volleyball head coach Jen Jacobs enters her second season at the helm of Vikings volleyball in 2018. The former All-American at Minnesota State has not only brought a positive, high-energy attitude to the program but also immediate success on the court.
In her first season as Head coach, the Vikings won 23 games, including 13 wins in the nation’s toughest conference in DII, the Northern Sun. Jacobs’ program spent numerous weeks ranked inside the American Volleyball Coach Association top 25 rankings, and also accumulated multiple individual honors. 2017 Senior Tahlyr Banks started all 32 matches for the Vikings, was named the NSIC Libero of the Year, and also earned AVCA All-America Third-Team. Both Banks and current student-athlete Courtney Place were also selected to part of the DII U23 All-Star Team that will compete and tour in Europe through the month of July.
Jacobs also made an impact off the court, helping nine Vikings earn All-Academic honors, including Alex Banker, Banks, Hanna Justesen, Bailey Koch, Place, Jessica Simon, Sophia Terwilleger, Lauren Waite, and Ashley Wilson.
Jacobs was named the ninth head coach in program history on Feb. 13, 2017. Prior to her time at Augie, Jacobs spent the last five seasons at Augsburg College where she served in various administration roles as well as an assistant volleyball coach. She spent two years as an assistant compliance director before being named the assistant athletic director for external relations/inclusion and diversity. Jacobs served as the advisor for the Augsburg Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. During her time at Augsburg, the volleyball team compiled a 105-42 record, including back-to-back seasons of 20-plus wins in 2013 and 2014. Jacobs brings an extensive background in junior Olympics club volleyball and high school coaching.
A 2004 graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, Jacobs has coached the Northern Lights Volleyball Club since 2005 and has led the club to multiple national tournaments, including a USJO National Championship in 2012. She has won two USJO Silver medals and one bronze while qualifying seven teams for nationals during her tenure. Jacobs has coached her team to three AAU Championships. Jacobs is an active member of the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association and has had a strong presence in NCAA Division III legislation and sportsmanship initiatives. She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and was a member of the NACWAA legislation and governance committee while also leading multiple committees on diversity and inclusion at Augsburg.
Jacobs played for four seasons at Minnesota State, Mankato (2000-03) where she ended her career as a three-time All-North Central Conference performer. She was twice named AVCA All-Region and earned All-America Third Team honors as a junior in 2002. Jacobs still owns the career record at MSU with 1,623 digs and ranks second all-time in MSU history with 1,555 career kills.
Jacobs earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2004 and her master’s degree in educational administration from Saint Mary’s University in 2009.
Michelle (Van Epps) Aggen
Michelle (Van Epps) Aggen, a 2016 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University, is in her first year
as an assistant coach for the Augustana Volleyball program.
Aggen, a native of Jackson, MN., spent most of her college career at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. In 2014 Aggen transferred to DWU as a transfer from Iowa Lakes Community College.
While at Dakota Wesleyan she was a three year starter and three year captain. Aggen was also named GPAC All-Conference Honorable Mention. She played in 92 career matches, and finished with 3,263 career set assists, which ranks third all-time at DWU. She also finished with 759 digs and 218 kills.
In June of 2017 Michelle got married to her Husband Christopher, and in August they got a dog named Myka.
Graduate Assistant Coach
Jaelyn Arndt joined the Augustana volleyball staff as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2018. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native joins the Vikings after playing her college volleyball at Augsburg College.
While at Augsburg, Arndt participated in over 95 matches. During her senior campaign, the outsider hitter recorded a total of 325 points, 61 digs, 292 kills and 54 blocks (12 solo.)
Other than her volleyball expertise, Arndt brings a variety of social media and marketing experience to the staff and will assist the Athletic Communications and marketing departments promote the Augustana volleyball program.
Arndt is pursuing her masters degree in Sports Administration and Leadership at Augustana and resides in Sioux Falls.
